Update without uninstalling: keep your MAC, playlists and favourites

Updating the app is not the same as refreshing a playlist. The first changes the installed software; the second reloads provider data. For a new version, keep the edition intended for your device and do not clear data as a routine step.

Identify where the app was installed from

The Amazon Appstore edition updates through the store. The TV APK edition with its own updater can check signed packages in the app. If installed through another store, follow that edition’s update route. Do not assume every file with the same name is compatible.

Android phones have separate ARM64 and ARMv7 packages. Vega OS uses a separate package from the Android APK. A new edition for another system is not an installable upgrade over your app simply because the brand is the same.

Install over the existing app

A compatible update normally retains app data. Do not uninstall first or use Clear data. Privately note the identifier displayed in the app before making changes so you can check association if a problem occurs.

If the system reports an incompatible signature or unsupported package, stop and check the edition. Do not automatically resolve it by uninstalling. Reinstallation and device reset differ from an update and can affect the identifier and local information.
