Audio and subtitles: language, tracks and synchronisation

Missing sound, an unexpected language and delayed dialogue need different checks. In the Android / Fire OS edition, the Player, audio and subtitles panel groups the engine, available tracks and delay controls.

Start with the track, not the delay

Open options during playback and check Audio. Choose a track supplied by the stream. The preferred language setting helps selection but cannot add a dub the source does not contain. Provider labels sometimes describe tracks incorrectly.

If there is no sound, check TV and audio-equipment volume, then try another track and the alternative engine. Sound must exist before adjusting delay: synchronisation controls cannot repair a missing or unsupported track.

Subtitles must exist in the source

The subtitle list shows options detected by the player. If the desired language is missing, confirm what the provider supplies for that movie or episode. Subtitles burnt into the picture are not a separate track and cannot be disabled by changing languages.

Try setting a preferred language, then check the track actually selected in the stream. Track and delay availability depend on the engine. Do not assume every edition or file has the same options just because the title matches.

Change one setting and test

For out-of-sync dialogue or subtitles, adjust delay in small steps and watch the same scene. Note whether the offset stays constant or grows over time. If it gets worse, restore the initial value before the next test.

An offset that grows may indicate something other than a fixed delay. Compare another title and the alternative engine without changing every setting together. Tell support the engine, track, adjustment tried and whether the problem occurs only with particular audio equipment.
